Number of sessions per year: 38 term time only
Qualifications Preferred: Good standard of literacy and numeracy. Local qualification/NVQ2/3 in youth work.

Please note that this is not a formal Job Description but a generalisation of the Barns Green Youth Club’s Management Committee expectations of the position requirements.
Successful applicants will be required to have an enhanced clear Disclosure and Barring Service check.
The Youth Club meets on a Thursday evening term time only in Barns Green Village Hall, opening times 7.00pm – 9.00pm.
Either side of this, time is required for setting up, taking down, briefing and evaluation, giving a working session from 6.30pm till 9.30pm. Time gained by finishing earlier than 9.30pm can be used for preparation of work outside of the session.
Barns Green Youth Club Management Committee is not an employing body and this position is offered on a self-employed basis with sessions worked being invoiced to the Youth Club Committee’s Treasurer on a 3 monthly basis. There is an expectancy of regular attendance. Not essential but it would be appreciated if voluntary time can be given on the rare occasion to support trips away from Barns Green and special events.
The Youth Worker in Charge will report to the Management Committee who will be able to offer support and operational guidance along with termly supervision if requested.
The club is currently staffed by one paid part time Youth Worker in Charge, an assistant youth worker and a number of volunteers from the village, who work on rotation.

The role of the Youth Worker in Charge includes but is not limited to meeting the aims of Barns Green Youth Club:
The aim of the Youth Club is to provide a safe environment for young people in school years 7 to 11 from Barns Green and locality to socialise and meet up with friends old and new. To provide young people with opportunity for personal, social and educational development along with offering new challenges and experiences.
The Worker in Charge will:
Be responsible for the welfare, safety and supervision of young people attending the Youth Club
Be responsible for developing and delivering a programme of activities that meets the aims of the Youth Club and the needs of young people aged 11 to 16.
Value all young people without prejudice ensuring equality for all
Establish relationships with BGYC members of trust and mutual respect
Provide first aid counselling for young people as required
Offer and provide support if necessary to the Assistant Youth Worker and volunteers
Support, assist and encourage member helpers
Talk to and engage with members
Encourage and help members to take charge of their own activities
Monitor use of computers and ensure members are aware of the possible dangers of chat rooms and social network sites etc.
Challenge any signs of bullying
Challenge any discriminatory words, remarks, jokes
Monitor behaviour of members and intervene if necessary
Run specific projects and activities
Take part in activities on offer in order to achieve the points above
Be aware of and report or correct health and safety issues
Help set up and clear up the hall including responsibility for opening and closing and leaving the hall in a secure and tidy condition
Additional Responsibilities:
Aspects of administration, maintenance and purchase of equipment and budget management as required
Ensuring the tuck shop is kept well stocked
Provide a termly written or verbal Youth Worker’s report to the Youth Club Management Committee
Attend Youth Club Management Committee meetings
